The number of young children detained between the ages of 14 and 15 was 18. There were no children detained in the Israeli military court system under 14 years old.

Palestinian boy attacked by Israeli army dog & detained

Around 5 pm on October 20, Ameer Awad, 16, was alone on his family’s land located in Beit Ommar near the Israeli settlement of Karmi Tsur and the West Bank city of Hebron when Israeli soldiers standing 50 meters (164 feet) away released a military dog in his direction. The dog bit him on his torso, hand, and legs, and stopped only when an Israeli soldier muzzled the dog. Ameer was detained and then hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the attack. Read more.

Israel reviewed by UN Human Rights Committee

On October 20, the UN Human Rights Committee reviewed Israel's compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which Israel ratified in 1991.

A DCI-Palestine representative presented testimony to the Human Rights Committee in Geneva, and attended the review where Israel was questioned on its systematic and widespread ill-treatment of Palestinian child detainees. DCI-Palestine also submitted written reports on ill-treatment and torture of Palestinian children in Israeli military detention.

The committee expressed concern for continued "widespread, systematic and institutionalized ill-treatment of Palestinian children" and demanded a complete end to torture and ill-treatment of Palestinian children. Read more.
