Ramallah, January 29, 2025—Israeli forces shot and killed a 16-year-old Palestinian boy in the central occupied West Bank on Sunday.

Adam Majdi Ahmad Sub Laban, 16, was shot by a sniper from the Israeli Border Guard Brigade stationed on the military watchtower around 11:30 p.m. on January 26 near the car lane leading to the Qalandia military checkpoint, north of Jerusalem in the central occupied West Bank, according to documentation collected by Defense for Children International - Palestine. Adam and two other children were walking in the area, where no clashes or tensions were present. Adam was struck in the left thigh from behind, in addition to being injured by a bullet shrapnel in his left hand from a distance of 100 meters (328 feet) away. He was transferred by a Palestinian civilian car to the Ramallah Governmental Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:50 p.m.

“After more than two decades of collecting documentation of Palestinian children killed by Israeli soldiers, it is clear that soldiers kill these children simply because they want to,” said Ayed Abu Eqtaish, accountability program director at DCIP. “They know that they will face no consequences from their superior officers, government officials, or anyone in the international community for killing a Palestinian child.”

Medical reports confirmed that Adam’s injury resulted in severe bleeding due to the injury to the femoral artery in the left thigh. The two other children who were with Adam sustained moderate injuries. They were initially taken to Al-Shifa Medical Center in the Palestinian town of Kafr Aqab before being transferred to Ramallah Governmental Hospital.

Israeli forces have killed nine Palestinian children in the occupied West Bank in 2025, according to documentation collected by DCIP. Five children were killed by Israeli drone strikes and four children were shot and killed with live ammunition.

In 2024, Israeli forces and settlers killed at least 93 Palestinian children in the occupied West Bank, according to documentation collected by DCIP. Israeli forces and settlers shot and killed 71 Palestinian children with live ammunition, 17 Palestinian children were killed in drone strikes, three Palestinian children were killed in an Israeli warplane airstrike, one child was killed by Israeli-fired ground shell, and one child was killed by unexploded ordnance (UXO) left behind by Israeli forces.
